In remembrance of fallen soldiers and in honor of those who serve, MVHS chorus and band students offered their musical gifts to a Memorial Day service outside the Greenville VFW Post 3175 in Port Jervis, on Saturday, May 26.

Chamber Choir members, junior Darian Abraham and seniors Alonso O'Bannon, Sarah Cinelli and Danielle Bellettiere, led the ceremonies with the Star Spangled Banner in a capella.

"Many of the veterans took the time to come up to us and say how excited they were to hear us sing,” Sarah Cinelli said. “They were thankful that we gave of our time to be there, but we are the ones who are thankful for their sacrifice."

Alonso O'Bannon has been a part of this event every year of his high school career. “I love being able to give back and support our veterans in this way," Alonso said.

Trumpet players Colin Clancy, a sophomore, and Helen Gromacki, a junior, played "Taps" during the ceremony. "During the service, they told us to stand on opposite sides of the garden to symbolize the living and those who have fallen," Colin said. "It truly was very moving, and it felt great to be a part of it!"
