Minisink Valley Athletics

Minisink Valley has a long and proud tradition of athletic participation and excellence thanks to our engaged students, strong community support, committed and dedicated teachers, coaches, support personnel, administrators, and our Board of Education. Our teams have captured numerous Orange County League and Section IX titles. We have also achieved several state championships and frequent state rankings. Not least of all, we are very proud of having received numerous team-sportsmanship and scholar-athlete team awards. We encourage all students to take part in our athletic programs to enrich their experience at Minisink Valley! Go Warriors!

12 STUDENT-ATHLETES SIGN NCAA CELEBRATORY LETTERS

Congratulations to the 12 senior student-athletes who signed their NCAA celebratory letters on May 29, committing to compete in Division III sports in the fall, at the colleges of their choice.

 

Coaches highlighted each young athlete’s achievements and leadership qualities, and expressed the district's gratitude to their parents and family members. It is with Minisink pride that we congratulate each of the following seniors and we wish them much success in their future endeavors.

CLASS OF 2019 SCHOLAR-ATHLETES RECOGNIZED AT COUNTYWIDE AWARDS EVENT

The Minisink Valley CSD proudly recognized seniors Victoria Burger (101.38 GPA/cross country, indoor track, and lacrosse) and Nicholas Albornoz (98.6 GPA/cross country, wrestling and indoor track) at the annual Scholar-Athlete Breakfast of the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Held on Tuesday, June 4, the event honored one senior male and one senior female student from each of the 27-member school districts for their athletic and academic achievements and outstanding citizenship.

OCIAA’s 2019 scholar-athlete award recipients were joined and celebrated by their families and district representatives at Kuhl's Highland House in Middletown.

LADY WARRIOR GOLF TEAM CO-SHARES DIVISION II TITLE, FINISHES SEASON WITH 19-3 RECORD

The Lady Warrior Golf team finished the year with an impressive 19-3 record and shared the Division II title with Goshen High School, the ultimate Section 9 champion. Caroline Bell earned eighth-place; Sydney Buck tied for ninth-place; and Andrea Andalis finished in 11th place. They led the way at sections for Minisink Valley! Caroline and Sydney will represent the team at States in Rochester this weekend.

NINE BOYS VARISTY BASEBALL PLAYERS HONORED AT ANNUAL SENIOR RECOGNITION DAY

MV TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES CAP RECORD-SETTING SEASON WITH QUALIFICATION FOR NATIONALS

The boys and girls varsity track & field teams competed in the OCIAA Championships on May 16-17, highlighted by the latest in a season full of record-setting performances in the boys distance relays.

 

In the final event of the first day of competition, the boys 4x800 relay team of sophomores Steven Struk and Chalen Bobish combined with seniors Aiden Berlinski and Caelan Munsch for a commanding victory in 7:59.15. This win breaks the magic 8:00 barrier for the first time in program history, posts a seven-second improvement on the previous program record, and achieves a national championship-qualifying mark in the process.  

MV GOLFERS TANOUS AND WORTMANN ADVANCE TO SECTION 9 CHAMPIONSHIP

Congratulations to sophomore Andrew Tanous and seventh-grader Kevin Wortmann on qualifying for the boys golf Section 9 golf championship. Andrew shot an 87 and placed 10th out of 50 golfers. Kevin shot a 91 and placed 20th. 

“They both endured very tough conditions at West Point Golf Club, and showed grit and determination in their play,” said Coach Luke McDonald. “Great job and good luck!”

This is the first time in over a decade that two Minisink Valley golfers advance to the section’s championship, and the first time in school history that a seventh-grader achieves the same feat. The Section 9 championship begins Tuesday, May 21, at the Powelton Club in Newburgh.

MV GOLFERS QUALIFY FOR COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

CONGRATULATIONS to Minisink Valley golfers Thomas Cunningham, senior; Andrew Tanous, sophomore; and Kevin Wortmann, seventh-grader on qualifying for the Orange County Golf Championship. 

They will be playing at West Point Golf Club on Monday, May 13, for a chance to qualify for the Section 9 championship. Good luck! 

100 x 3! LACROSSE PLAYERS REACH CENTURY MARK IN THEIR MINISINK VALLEY CAREERS

Reaching the 100 mark is truly a feat in many sports!

 

Congratulations junior Mia Macaluso for scoring her 100th career lacrosse goal during the Warriors’ April 25 win over Highland/Marlboro team. Senior Nora Hanlon reached this same milestone of 100 goals in the Warriors' overtime victory over Warwick on May 8.

 

Plus! During that game, junior Madison Gerow recorded her 100th career save in goal.

MVHS CHEERLEADERS HOST MOTHER'S DAY PLANT FUNDRAISER ON SATURDAY, MAY 11

MVHS Cheerleaders will host a Mother’s Day plant sale on Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the student parking lot. The sale will feature hanging baskets, flower pots, vegetable plants and bedding plants. Proceeds will benefit the Warrior Cheerleading program.
